 SLOW MOTION SUICIDE

by Andrew Taylor and Desmond O’Connor

The award winning writers of Failed States present a darkly comic new musical, taking a tongue-in-cheek, satirical stab at the cash-rich/time-poor culture of modern capitalist life.

Fiona is a young, intelligent woman, who finds her sanity start to slip away as she gets drawn into a world fixated with target setting in education, public order, the NHS and commerce as a whole.

Set in a government office that values its statistics more than its staff, Slow Motion Suicide asks what happens to us when our work-life balance topples off the scales.

This second collaboration between Andrew Taylor and Desmond O'Connor sees them explore new, more comic territory.  Slow Motion Suicide delves into an absurd - yet eerily recognisable – world as the modern corporate workplace comes to life in its full manic glory.  Fiona's life is on the edge already, but how will she cope when the menacing figure of the credit crunch comes stalking the Square Mile?

A young idealistic woman who only wants to do well.  A caring colleague who isn’t all he appears to be.  A boss who believes targets are themselves the ultimate goal.  An office where sanity always take a back seat.  Welcome to the world of Slow Motion Suicide!

Slow Motion Suicide has been developed through a process of workshops and readings.  We are particularly grateful for the assistance and collaboration we have received from Battersea Arts Centre, Perfect Pitch, RSAMD, Arts Council England and Chris Grady.  We have plans for a full production of the show in 2009, so watch this space for details!
